BYU International Study Programs

With 158 programs in 58 countries, Brigham Young University has the 17th largest study abroad program in the nation. More than 1,700 students applied for international study programs during the 2007 school year, and about 1,400 of them were accepted. Students studied on every continent this last year except for Antarctica and Australia. Europe has the highest number of BYU study abroad programs with 16, followed by Asia with 14 and Africa with 11.

About two-thirds of the study abroad students spend a term at their international locations, with most of the rest of the students studying for a semester. In its annual Open Doors report on U.S. students studying abroad, the Institute of International Education ranked BYU No. 13 for short-term study abroad programs.

Helping with the students are faculty who both direct international study programs and mentor students out in the field. During the 2006-2007 academic year, 105 faculty directed study abroad programs in the field and another 147 faculty mentored students.
