BYU International Study Programs
With 133 programs in 55 countries, Brigham Young University has one of the largest study abroad programs in the nation. The latest Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange ranks BYU 21st in the nation, with nearly 2,000 students studying abroad.
More than 2,700 students applied for international study programs during the 2011 school year. Students studied on every continent this last year except for Antarctica. Europe has the highest number of BYU study abroad programs with 67, followed by Asia with 43 and North/Central America with 19.
About two-thirds of the study abroad students spend a term at their international locations, with most of the rest of the students studying abroad for a semester.
Helping with the students are faculty who both direct international study programs and mentor students out in the field. During the 2010-2011 academic year, 94 faculty directed study abroad programs in the field and another 176 faculty mentored students.
